Recent flooding across the UK has taken its toll on many households, and thousands of pounds worth of damage has been sustained in some homes as a result of the torrential rain and bad weather conditions. Many people in the UK have had to deal with the headache of uprooting whilst their homes are sorted out and making claims for damaged property and belongings, and the financial side of the storm and weather damage is likely to take its toll on insurance companies as well as on households.
Although those with insurance cover have the headache of dealing with the flood damage, making their claims, and waiting for it to be processed with possible long delays due to the huge influx if claims, there are also those without adequate insurance, and even those with no insurance at all, who will now have to suffer the financial consequences of the weather damage alone, with no insurance protection to help them to get their lives back on track.
Insurance companies are now reporting a rise in the level of interest in insurance policies, as consumers have seen just what sort of damage bad weather can cause and what the financial implications can be. Queries from consumers in higher risk areas such as Scotland and the North of England are said to have risen by around 300% in recent weeks, as consumers rush to protect themselves against the financial implications of further bad weather in the areas.
According to one industry professional consumers are now desperate to protect themselves and their homes after seeing the damage the weather has caused.
He stated: “Clearly, homeowners who narrowly escaped the floods this time have realised that without any insurance cover they could be left footing bills for tens of thousands of pounds in the future.”
